History of Dallas
To write a complete history of Dallas would be quite a long read so let’s learn about it in brief. Dallas was granted a town charter on February 2 in 1856 which was during the regular session of the 6th Texas Legislature. By the time 1860 came around, the population in Dallas grew to 678 which included 97 African Americans as well as French, Belgian, Swiss and German folk.
That same year, several stage lines were regularly passing throughout the city. In 1930, Dallas became the financial center, following the East Texas Oil Boom, for all the oil fields in the surrounding Permian Basin, Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, East Texas and Gulf Coast areas. Following this Oil Boom was the Real Estate boom of the late 1970’s to the early 1980’s. The late 1990’s ushered in the huge growth in the telecom industry during which time Dallas became known as Texas’s Silicon Prairie. Today, Dallas’ Arts District is set to follow in the footsteps of the major growths.
