History of New York
The History of New York goes back to its first Indian inhabitants. The area was then discovered by Italian explorers in the 1500's and during the 1600's the Dutch started a settlement and trading in the area. The area was then called New Amsterdam. During the 1600's, the British conquered New Amsterdam and renamed it by its present name, New York. From 1700's to the 1800's, immigrants arrived in huge numbers and this is why New York today is a hodgepodge of people from all nationalities around the world.
