Living Cost in New Orleans
Before, one of the reasons that New Orleans has been called The Big Easy is because of the relatively low cost of living there. Compared to many major US cities, housing was affordable and even the most modest paycheck could give a comfortable lifestyle.
After Katrina, apartments are available in a wide variety of neighborhoods and the average rent for a single bedroom costs about $1200. The average 2-bedroom apartment costs around $1770 while a 3-bedroom costs over $2,000. The cost of living shoot up and rental rates will be high until additional housing structures are in place.
