History of Honolulu
The history of Honolulu can be traced back to a settlement where the original Polynesian migrants first settled. That was in the 12th century. In 1804, Kamameha I conquered Oahu during the Battle of Nuuanu and moved his royal court from Hawaii to Waikiki. Then he and his court relocated to what is today’s downtown Honolulu and 1809.
Despite all the turbulence in the late 19th century up to the early years of the 20th century, Honolulu steadfastly remained as the largest city and the capital as well as main seaport and airport of the Hawaiian Islands. Since, then the tourism and economic boom has led to a rapid growth in Honolulu’s economy as well as Hawaii.
