Travel Guide of San Francisco
If you plan on going around a lot downtown, beware of the peddling people especially around Fisherman's Wharf who offer very expensive tours. To have the real feel of the city, walk around and take public transportation wherever possible. It might take you longer to get to your destination, but in San Francisco the phrase “The journey is the reward” really makes lots of sense. If you visit the residential neighborhoods, you'll find lots of good restaurants which are way less expensive than the food places downtown. Some tourists even claim that the best restaurants are in the not-so-busy parts of San Francisco.
