Attractions of Montreal
A lot of galleries, restaurants, cafes, and boutiques line up Old Montreal. The 3,800-seat Notre-Dame Basilica should be your first stop. This church, built in 1656, is one of the largest cathedrals in North America. It has a very impressive exterior and a more breathtaking interior. It’s the wedding venue for Montreal’s Celine Dion in 1994.
Romantics can ride a horse-drawn carriage and go to Old Town. The drivers can give a run-through of the major sites along the way. You can also walk and go to St-Sulpice to the 19th-century City Hall where there are sidewalk cafes that feature street performers. During summer, there are flower carts lined up at this place too.
Montreal’s internationally famous festivals include the Just for Laughs Festival and the Jazz Festival. The Musee Juste Pour Rire or Just for Laughs Museum is at St-Laurent. This is the first museum that is dedicated to humor. There are 100 clips of famous comedians like Johnny Carson and Woody Allen on exhibit. Reservation is a needed because this has a limited capacity.
