Attractions of Geneva
Touring the city in a day will not do, as there are loads of attractions in Geneva – from museums to parks, to restaurants and bars. One of the popular sights is the Jet d’Eau, a fountain that reaches 140 meters up the air. It was originally just a pressure release from a hydro generation power plant on the Rhone River, and was not meant to be a tourist attraction. But since it became a popular sight, in 1891, it became a permanent fountain for the crowd to enjoy. It is especially attractive at night as it is beautifully lit. The best part is that it can be seen from a distance, and can be enjoyed – for free!
Other tourist attractions include:
- Cathedrale St-Pierre
- Palais des Nations
- Museum of the International Committee of the Red Cross
- Musee d’Art Moderne et Contemporain
- Musee d’Histoire Naturelle
