Travel Guide of Barcelona
Barcelona is great even during the off-season winter months of January and February. The best time to visit the city is in April to June and September to November when it is not too humid. Barcelona is a friendly city but you should beware of pickpockets especially in crowded places like Raval and Rambals, bus terminals, train stations, and in public transportations. Be wary of individuals posing as foreigners who claim that their tickets are missing and asking you fro 50 or 100 euros.
Use automated teller machines in less crowded areas off the main streets. There have been many incidents of PIN theft so be sure to fully cover the machine when you’re using it. Do not be easily distracted until you complete your transaction. Be vigilant about scammers in ATM areas. Make sure the cashiers in commercial establishments do not overcharge you. They will demand exact change and if you give them payment that needs change, they will “forget” about it if you are not attentive enough.
Women who travel alone should be careful in more isolated areas and in the city beaches since bag snatchers are rampant. Just leave your valuables locked in the hotel. Car doors should always be locked because there are many incidents of bag snatchers opening the doors during a red traffic light.
If you have brought a car, you might become a victim of organized thieves who will scam you. They will puncture your tire and when you’re busy replacing, somebody will offer some help. While this is ongoing, you are being robbed off your wallet, camera, or anything of value. If you must unload a luggage from the trunk, place it inside the car and lock the doors. Be careful and extra alert when you talk to strangers.
