History of Dublin
Claudius Ptolemaeus or Ptolemy referred to Dublin as Eblana Civitas in his writings circa 140 AD. Dubh Lin (meaning “black pool” in Irish) was a settlement that was established way back in the 1st century BC. By coincidence, Dubh Linn is located across the Irish Sea from Blackpool. Dublin has been founded as a settlement of the Vikings. It has been Ireland's primary city for most of the island's rich history since the medieval times. These days, Dublin is a center for economic, administrative and cultural aspects of the Irish island.
