Some useful tips when flying to Jakarta
Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, and is also the largest city in the country. It is also called the “Big Durian”, the interesting fruit that is found only in South East Asia. It is located at the island of Java. The city is a contrast of the high end rich and elite, and the poorest of the poor. Despite of this, the city bursts of interesting sights and attractions for tourists from all over.
Jakarta can be reached by plane, and the main airport is the Soekarno Hatta International Airport. It connects Jakarta to the other Indonesian cities, as well as to international cities. The airport has three terminals that serve different clients. Terminal 1 is for the domestic airliners except the airline Garuda Indonesia, which is served by Terminal 2 along with foreign airlines. Terminal 3 is for those who are going to the hajj pilgrimage, and also for transnational migrant workers. There is a free shuttle bus that goes around the airport, but if you are rushing, a taxi is better, but the fare can be quite steep because of the additional fees that the driver pays for parking.
The other airport in Jakarta is the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport which is used by the military, for VIP and charter flights, helicopter companies and private jets. Cheap flights to Jakarta can be availed of through online reservations, but should be booked weeks earlier to get the best packages.
